School starts tomorrow! I can’t wait. Here is my school schedule, it is a very weird schedule, Mondays and Wednesdays will be wide open, but on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays i will be really busy. I don’t think I will be able to post on my blog everyday, but I will try and post every Monday, Wednesday, Saturday, and Sunday. I don’t know how much attention I can pay to my business this semester, because I am going to be full time.
Yesterday I got a cold and was in bed the whole day. I was productive because I was on the internet though using social media and promoting my business all day. I hope I will be all better by tomorrow, when classes start. I’m still a little under the weather right now, but am feeling better than yesterday. I got a haircut on Friday, here’s a pic:
I really like my new haircut what do you think?
Hello sorry I haven’t written here in a while, I have been very busy with school, also my father passed away on Tuesday September 18th. After that I sort of let my business go, but I am ready to refocus my attention on my business. I ended up dropping two of my classes and went down to two classes. I am now taking just Introduction to Typography and Introduction to Design. Here is a picture of the first project I did for my design class:
I am glad I am still in school as it has been a great distraction for me. I hope to restart this blog and post more regularly. I look forward to your feedback.
Well today was my second day of school and I think I might have bitten off more than I can chew. I am overwhelmed right now. I am enjoying all of my classes so far, but I don’t think I can keep up if I keep going at this pace. I need to figure out what I need to concentrate on and manage my time better. I need to figure out a plan.
I was planning on taking 3 studio classes, what was I thinking? I am going to have to drop one class, but I am unsure as to which class would be the best one for me to drop. I think I am going to drop my jewelry and Metals class because I think it involves the most work and would be the most time consuming outside of class, I think. I am conflicted about dropping jewelry and metals because it was the class that I was looking forward to taking the most. I can still take it in the spring though, and will probably get more out of it when I take it then as opposed to with all of my graphic design courses. I was thinking of dropping my typography class before I went to it today, but it turns out that the teacher is really cool and I know someone who is taking it already, and I think that it could turn into my favorite class of the semester. I guess I already have made my decision. Writing it out here helped me to decide because it clarified my thoughts.
I have many goals this semester and by dropping this one class, hopefully I can meet them. My goals this semester are:
1. Get A’s in all of my classes,
2. Lose weight
3. Work on my business/sell stuff
4. Continue my blog
If I am going to be part-time I can probably devote some time to my etsy store and my business that I would have been unable to do otherwise. Speaking of my etsy store I listed an item last night, check it out here. I will write more about my classes later, right now I am going to sleep because I have to wake up at 8:00 am tomorrow morning. My class doesn’t start until 11:00 am, but I want to work out, and I need to set a precedent if I want to get in shape this semester. I have to take the bus so I have to leave around 9, which will give me enough time to get to school, by about 9:45, I hope, and then workout and shower, which I am budgeting an hour for, which takes me to 10:45, which gives me 15 min to get across campus to the lecture hall where my class is held.
Let me know what you think about my blog. I look forward to hearing from my readers.
Hey nothing that interesting happened today, but I thought I would write a blog entry anyway. I am really excited because school starts tomorrow! I am really looking forward to going back to school. It is funny, I never used to feel this way for my first degree, that must mean that I am on the right track.
Today I went shopping for school supplies and I hope that I have everything that I need. I went to jo-ann fabrics looking for sketchbooks and I saw this in a magazine:
It looks a lot like what I make (the rock part at least) doesn’t it?
Well this is going to be a short post, as I can’t think of anything else to write about. I am going to have a hard time sleeping tonight, I can just tell. I am both excited and nervous at once.
I woke up this morning with a migraine headache and could hardly get out of bed. After going downstairs and having breakfast I took 2 Advil I went back to bed. When I was sitting in bed I started to play around with my Ipad, and I started listening to some podcasts. I listened to 15 minute craft website tips and she recommended getting the domain name for your website. So I went to godaddy.com and tried to register craftsbyknight.com and it was taken. I called the number provided and the guy that owns the site answered and he bought it for his wife whose father is starting a business by the name of, you guessed it “crafts by knight” I gave him my contact info and he said he would ask his wife about selling me the page. I am kicking myself right now. I should done this first before choosing my name, but now I don’t know what to do.
I figure I have a few options, the first one is to wait and see if he is willing to sell me the page. I am going to do this for one week. My second option if I can’t buy the domain name from him is to change my name. I was thinking of the name “Jewelry by Knight” but this would be a huge hassle, I would have to create a new fb page, gmail account, pinterest account, and get a new etsy store.
I could register “jewelry by knight” before someone else gets it, but I don’t know what to do. Does anyone have any advice for me? I don’t know what to do.
UPDATE: craftsbyknight.net was available, so I am not going to change my name, I have craftsbyknight.net and blog.craftsbyknight.net as well as an email address, which I will set up later. It will all be up by Sunday. I can’t wait. the .net will forward people to my etsy store and blog.net will forward people to my wordpress blog.
Hi sorry I haven’t written in a few days, but I have been busy. I got my financial aid check in the mail on Tuesday and went and bought my textbooks and got things I needed for the semester. Yesterday I went to the Milwaukee Art Museum to see the Toulouse Lautrec posters of Paris exhibition. I had already gone to exhibition when it opened and loved it, but I had to go again because my teacher sent me a paper assignment before the semester starts. The teacher sent the paper to me before the semester starts because it is about the exhibit, which ends on September 9th and the exhibition is relevant to what I am learning in the class. In the paper I have to go into detail comparing and contrasting two different posters. I chose two different pictures advertising the Moulin Rouge one by Toulouse Lautrec and the other one by Jules cheret. Here are the posters that I am going to write about.
I think I will write about school in this post right now, as I am going back on Tuesday. I go to UWM Peck school of the arts. I completed my foundations year last spring and am looking forward to taking “real” art classes. I wrote about this in my about me section, but I figured that not everyone has read that section so I will write about it here. I graduated in December of 2010 from UWM with a degree in linguistics. After that I didn’t know what to do with myself. Before graduation I never really thought about what I wanted to do once I graduated, which was a huge mistake. I was a linguistics major because linguistics was easy for me, but I didn’t want to go back to school and get my master’s in linguistics, and there wasn’t much else I could do with my degree.
Last summer I decided follow my passion, I didn’t want to settle for a life that I didn’t want. I decided to go to school for jewelry making, because that is something that I love to do. UWM is the only school in the area with a jewelry making and metal-smiting degree and I hear that it is a really good program. I had to go through my foundations year of art school before I could take any jewelry making classes. I took Art survey, 3D concepts, drawing 101, and Art History 102 my first semester in spring of 2011 and in the fall I went part-time and took 3 studio classes. I took 2D concepts, digital arts practice culture and theory, and the third class I took was drawing 102. I discovered that I actually have a talent for drawing and art in general. I love to make pictures in Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator. After my foundations year I am unsure which direction I want to go into, I am torn now. I enjoy making jewelry, but I like what I make now and I do not know if I will be able to make a living and pay back my student loans once I graduate. I am thinking of changing my major to graphic design. The graphic design program is highly competitive and I might not be able to get into it because there is a portfolio review in order to get in. I am thinking of changing my major for many reasons, the first is that I could actually make a living doing this, the other main one is that I enjoy using the computer to make art.
The good news is that I don’t have to make a decision right away. I am going to take both intro to graphic design and intro to jewelry and metal-smiting and see what I like best. In addition to intro to jewelry making and intro to graphic design, I am also taking intro to typography and design survey, which is the class where the teacher assigned a paper already. I am super excited about school starting. I wrote a lot here today and I think I will stop here. Let me know what you think of my post by making a comment in the comments section.
